This week marks the opening of
the first, of a series of ragtime tourn
aments to lie held oa the Club bowl- I
ing alleys. Ragtime rolling consists
of two-man teams, and no two men ,'
can roll together more than once.
Each team rolls three games, and the
pair with the highest total pins for
three games wins the tournament.
With Caylor, Scott, Stoddard, Van
Fleet, Crowe, Kohl, Bookman, Will
iams, Washburn, Barnes, DeKalb, Mc
Leod, Bolton, Humphries, Jokers and
Shorty Logue, some good scores
should be made. Barnes and Patton
are leading at present, with 1111 pins,
Caylor and Stoddaard are second with
1069. Don Scott showed his class
Tuesday night by rolling 278 pins in
onti game. This is the highest score
of the season on the local alleys.
Pocket Billiard Match Tonight.
Tonight at the- Club parlors, Ike
Crawford and Win. Weaver will play
Humphries and Ellsworth Ellis the
second block of 100 points, pocket
billiards, whidf will settle the much
disputed -championship honors. The
first block of 150 points of this con
test went to Crawford and Weaver
by a small margin, but Ellis and
Humphries declare it was stage fright
that caused them to blow up. They
have been practicing for the past few
days and say they can now play be
fore a million people with absolute
composure, and the spectators are
promised some thrills. : '
Don McLachlin, the best ' cue ex
ponent in Eastern Oregon, will ref
eree the match, which will begin at
8:30 p. m. -

Figures Issued From State Engineer
ing Office Shows Much Activity.
During the year 1913, a total of
466 permits were issued by the state
(engineer for the appropriation of
water. Under these permits 442,
181 acres will be irrigated, 39,225
horsepower will be developed and 41
reservoirs will be constructed, at a
total cost of approximately $7,000,-
000.
During the quarter ending Decern
ber 31, 1913, 88 permits were issued
for the irrigation of 6,933 acres and
the development of 1,958 horsepower.
Among these permits was one issued
to F. D. Small of Tillamook, and C.
D. Urie of Camas, Washington, for
the development of 1208 horsepower
with the waters of the Trask river in
Tillamook county.'.
One permit has been issued in Un
ion county the past quarter, to Min
nie G. Stevens, et al, of Cove, for
domestic use, diverting , the water
from a spring 'which is located in
Section 16, Township 3, S. R. 40 E.
