Gossard Corsets adapt themselves
perfectly to the present demands of
fashion.
The change effected in the figure
line when fitted tq a Gossard corset
will amaze you. Gossard corsets all
have the long skirts and you cannot
detect the lower ' line of boning so
carefully is ' it done. With the Gos
sard there are no lines, except the
beautiful natural lines of the figure.

T-ees and Fools.
Any fool can destroy trees. They
canuot run away, and if they could
they would still be destroyed chased
and bunted down as loug as fun or a
dollar could be got out of tbelr bark
hides, branching horns or magnificent
bole backbones. 1'Vw that fell trees
plant them. Nor would planting avail
much toward gettlug back anything
like tbe noble primeval forests. . Dur
ing u man's life only saplings can be
grown in the pluce of the old trees,

destroyed. It took more than 3,000
years to make some of the trees In
these western woods trees that are
still standing in perfect strength and
beauty, waving aud singing in the
mighty forests of tbe Sierras. God bas
cared for these trees, saved them from
drought, disease, avalanches and a
thousand training, leveling tempests
! and floods, but he canuot save them
from fools. Only uncle Sam can ao

Ideas of advancement In South Amer
ica are aesthetic, wbllo lu the United
States they run along practical lines.
As an indication of the uses to which
capital bas been applied In South Amer
ica and the difference in temperament
of the people of that part of the west
ern-world as compared with the In
habitants of the United 8tates a story
Is told of a meeting between a Bra
sillan promoter and an American pros
pector at one of the new cities which
have recently sprung tip on the banks
of the Amazon. The native pointed
with pride to a pretentious opera bouse
overlooking the mighty river and asked
the stranger If the site was not superb,
"Well." said the man from one of our
western states, "I think it would be a
mighty fine place for a sawmill."
