PORTLAND, Jan. 1 (special)
There is a slightly better feeling in
the local apple trade.' While some
bealers report no improvement in fhe
.demand, others indicate that a frac
tionally, better buying is going on.
No change is indicated in prices.
The demand now shown is principal
ly for choice to fancy stuff, there be
ing 'little call for anything better.
Receipts of 'apples are still quite
fair, especially of the poorer quality.
A quiet tone is generally shown in
the apple trade throughout the coun
try. To some extent this is due to
the fact that the speculative trade
has been rather anxious to clean up
its former purchases with as little
delay as possible, but on the other
hand this appears to be a very minor
factor.
The big crop of oranges this
season is proving one of the most
important factors in keeping down
the Bale of apples. Orange distrib
utors are advertising rather exten
sively, and this is creating a demand
for that fruit and displacing the
apples.
Orange prices are likewise rather
low the best stock ruling here no
higher than $2.50 a box, while or
dinary stock is selling from $2 to
$2.25.
Yesterday's Stood as Follows.
Egg market manipulated.
Chicken prices higher.
Hops rather quiet
Country meats steady.
Apple demand is mixed.
Potatoes very quiet.
.Onions holding firm.
Cheese and butter steady.
Turkey prices maintained .
Oranges are lower.

Sick headache is nearly always
caused by disorders of the stomach.
Correct them and the periodic at
tacks or sick headache will disappear.
Mrs. John Bishop, of Roseville, Onio,
writes: "About a year ago I was
troubled with indigestion and had
sick headache that laster for two or
three days at a time. , I doctored
and tried a number of remedies but
nothing helped me until during one
of those sick spells a neighbor advised
me to take Chamberlain's Tablet.
This medicine relieved me in a short
time." For sale by all dealers.
