Old Madame Thebes, the Paris
mystic and seer who predicted the
San Francisco earthquake not, more
than 24 hours after everybody had
read about it,, has come forward with
her predictions for 1914. The ma
dame's predictions are always inte
resting because they bespeak a vivid
imagination. "
Madame Thebes , is . a confirmed
pessimist. Shecan see nothing but
gloom for 1914 Here are some of
her predictions: ' .
The planet Mars will predominate,
with war always menacing.
England will suffer critical perils
in India.
London will be threatened By nooua,
"catastrophe taking place as a-result
of the inundations which will arouse
the pity of the whole civilized world.
Portugal " is to see a restoration
of the mbnarcny. ;
Austria- will be sorely tried with
rioting. ' There will be bloodshed and
fire in the . streets of "Vienna,, the
situation will' be.-. av,en worse than
vthan in 'Hungary, and the. Austro
Hungary dynasty will be in ' grave
peril. A.
Germany will experience a severe
upheaval, bringing profound changes
in the character of its national life.
Italy will witness a new pope, who
will be friendlier to the monarchy.
It will ' he the good fortune . of
Russia to promote peace in , the
Balkans.
France is to be afflicted with scan
dals, riots, bloodshed and industrial
troubles in the northeast.
Mme Thebes should not be taken
' too seriously by the people who
worry about such things. There is
always one -consolation. She tells' of
things that possibly may happen, but
no things that are likely f) happen.
In her prediction for 1913 she didn't
leave enough of the United States
to All a coal scuttle. She had it
burned, flooded and shaken to pieces.
According to her prediction for this
year we should now all be dead. She
certainly predicted us out of busi-
ness, but Bhe wasn't backed up by
Divine Providence. That is usually
the drawback.
A person with a sense of humor
can read the Madame and smile.
Those who are downcast or morbid
Bhould always leave her literature
alone. ';

Special Church Notice.
Special music,, and an important
announcement at the eevning service
of the Presbyterian church tomorrow.
The front-lacing prinicple (originated
by The H. W. Gossard Co.) has accom
plished much for the comfort and con
venience of woman's dress.
Of even greater importance than front
lacing, however, has been the crentus
displayed in the actual designing and
making of Uossard Uorsets.
So outstanding and thorough has
been this work that, great as the front
lacing principle is, the Gossard method
of design and manufacture transcends
it, and the two combined occupy a po
sition so commanding that they are
now regarded as an International
vogue. :
Regardless of the cost every Gossard 1
Corset conforms to but one standard;
in style, workmanship and wearing!
