" Elgin, Nov., 29. The date of the
last meeting of Blue Mountain Chap
ter No. 52, O. E. S. -was also the date
of the pearl anniversary of the wed
ding of Dr. and Mrs. S. E. Brownell,
of Elgin, and their associates in the
O. E. S. tendered them a surprise in
the ; form ' of a reception in their
Chapter room in Masonic halL '
At the close of their regular meet
ing the officers were asked to as
semble in the anti-room.; Being an
officer. Mrs. Brownell went with the
others, the officen all being In white
as - is their custom for any special
event, Mrs. -Brownell was speedily ar
rayed in bridal costume by the ad
dition of veil and orange blossoms,
a boquet of white carnations was
placed in her hand. -
Escorted by a brother and proceed
ed by a flower girl and ring bearer,
with the Worthy Matron acting as
matron of honor and the other of
ficers as bridesmaids Mrs. Brownell
entered the chapter room at the left
as the Doctor, with the Worthy Pat
ron acting as' best man, and the bro
ther officers as. groomsmen, entered
at the right. '
To. the strains of Mendlesholm's
wedding march the company passed
to the center of the room, where,
under an arch supporting a wedding
bell, they were meet by Rev. Mr.
Hausen, pastor of the Brownell's and
Rev. Mr. James, of Wallowa. ; f ,
' After an address by - Rev, - Mr.
Hausen and the renewal of their
marriage vows, the Doctor presented
his wife with a beautiful pearl ring.
Heartily ; congratulated, by : their
many friends, they responded gracefully.
Mrs. J. F." Bates sang a solo, ' "I
Love You Truly." Musical selections
by. Mrs. Gentzer and Miss Bergman
and a cornet solo by Prof. Bates ad
ded much to the pleasure of the
guests.
The doctor and his wife wera es
corted to the ce.iter front of the
joom, and, with a fow remarks ex
pressing the esteem in which they
are held, and of appreciation of their
loyalty to right and truth they were
presented with a pearl and gold pen
from the officers of .the order. In a
pleasant speech from the good doc
tor and his wife the friends were as
sured of their pleasure in the occa
sion and of their love and loyal good
will for the fraternity.
