Services at Perry
Rev. W. C. Drahn will again hold
services at Perry, after having missed
the other service of the month. , These
services are to fall on the second and
fourth Wednesdays of the month, but
owing to conference and an attack of
bronchitis, Rev. Drahn was unable to
keep the last engagement, to the dis
appointment of a number who had not
been informed of the omission. ' It was
determined that inclement weather
was not to interfere with these ser
vices, but physical inability 'is an ob
stacle that it is impossible to get
around. It is hoped that there be no
further interruptions in the schedule
as these meetings have been well at
tended and are much appreciated.

' The "Forbidden Fruit"
Why the apple has been spoken of
as the fruit that was forbidden in the
Garden of Eden is one of the great
puzzles of biblical scholars. In Gen
esis III., where the incident of the
eating of this fruit of the "Tree of
Knowledge of Good and Evil," is men
tioned, no name whatever is given to
that fruit. All that is said is; "Aud
when the woman saw that the tree was
(food for food, and that it was pleasant
to the eyes, and a tree to be desired
to make one wise, she took of the fruit
thereof, and did eat, and gave also
unto her husband with her; and he did
eat.' (Verse 6.) r' - -In
fact, scholars doubt very serious
ly whether it was the apple at all They
suggest that all evidence points to it
having been the quince, the fragrance
of which was held in the highest es
teem hy the Orientals. Another point
in favor of the quince is that it is the
fruit which was sacred to Venus, the
goddess of love, and in a great many
of the ancient writings the quince is
verv frequently mentioned in this man.
