- On Friday evening, October 31, the
Misses Gertrude Halley and Ruth Oli
ver were hostesses to a number of
guests at the country home of Miss
Halley. Games true Ul the spirit of
the evening were played until 11:00
when the guests were ushered into the
dining room where . a , dainty two
course luncheon was served. ' After
the luncheon the witches pot was con
sulted for fortunes, which were arawn
by each guest, grasping a yellow and
black streamer. So carefuly had the
hostesses planned the evening's amuse
ments that no moment was left idle.
The" dining room and table with its
unique and artistic decorations was a
scene of beauty and elaborateness.
At a late hour as. the guests depart
ed they expressed many kind wishes
for the hostess and the delighf ul even
ing's fun they had provided, and also
left their best wishes with Mr. and
Mrs. Halley without whose hearty co
operation the evening could never have
been a success.
Last evening the La Grande high
school students were hosts to the Ba
ker. football team at Tlonan hall. Sup
posing that the Baker boys were to
leave on. the evening, train on prepar
ations, had been made but a few of the
girls and boys' got together and ar
ranged a very satisfactory program
for the evening in form of an informal
reception, when it was learned the
team was to (stay. The best of spirit
predominated and the lads and lassies
of Baker and La Grande "mixed" as
never before. . At an early hour the
party broke up because the Baker boys
having to play at Union today, needed
rest. Last evening's reception and
yesterday's game brought La Grande
