FORMER LA GRANDE PRINTER
BECOMES EDITOR. y r,-
Independent Newspaper to Be Publish
ed af'EIgin Hereafter.
Walter J. Henry, formerly a printer
t La Grande, and M. K. Henry have
purchased the Elgin Recorder from
Tuttle Brothers. Editorially the new
owners say in their first edition un
der the new management: '
On November 1st the undersigned
purchased The Elgin Recorder. After
living in Elgin and on our ranch north
of town for over three years we are
not strangers to most of our patrons,
and hope to soon meet and become ac
quainted with all.
Three years ago last spring sever
al years' confinement in printing of
fices began to affect the health of Mr.
Henry and forced a change to out
door life. Nearly three years' resi
dence in La Grande had made us fair
ly well acquainted with Union coun
ty and Elgin looked like the best
place for an investment in land suit
able for raising fruit, especially win
ter apples. Three years here have
made no change in that impression,
unless it is to make a certainty of
something that was then in the na
ture of an .experiment. We intend to
keep the ranch and improve it as fast
as possible. Both of us are perfectly
satisfied with the country, the clim
atic conditions, the possibilities for fi
nancial advancement, and last but
most important of all, the ciass of
people among whom we live and feel
that Elgin is and hope it always will
be our home in every sense of the
word. We are here first, last and all,
the time for the improvement and ad-
ancement that will be a credit both to
Elgin and ourselves and to this end
ask the co-operation of all. If you
know of any news item, tell it to
some one connected with The Recorder.
Mrs. Henry will pay particular atten
tion to the collecting of news items,
but it is impossible for any one per
son, or, for that matter, any two or'
three persons, to find out all that is
going on. ' -
Politically The Recorder will not be
bound to any party.' Any party or any
man or set of men who seem to be
trying to do the most to eliminate boss
rule and . substitute the rule of the
people in general will have the pre
ference.; The same invitation given
above is extended to the discussion
of political matters. ,
