as a matter of course; but if you have
used them and then, for some reason,
are forced to do without them-THEN
you will realize how much their bril

You needn't do without them in La

ATTORNEY GENERAL HOLDS
THEY CAN VOTE.
Decision of Local Interest Handed
: Down by Attorney General.
, That local officials were in error
when on advice of local attorneys
they refused to let La Grande alien
women who were wives of citizens
register at the city charter election is
apparent from the following opinion
by Attorney General Crawford:
Attorney General Crawford today
held that a married woman, although
not naturalised, is vested with ' the
right of suffrage if her husband it
naturalized or is a native citiien. The
opinion was the result of numerous
letters having been received by Mr.
Crawford on the subject.
"The I : naturalization laws of the
United States," said the attorney
general, "provide that when a woman
becomes the wife of a citizen her civil
she is entitled to vote. An alien wo
man who marries a citizen cannot take
out naturalization papers, but must
follow the status of her husband. Of
course, in order to vote these wo
men have to register and conform to
other minor requirements the same
as men."

Suicides Increasing.
Vienna, Oct. 24. "The first few
years of the twentieth century indicate
that it will attain to the doubtful fame
and characterization of the "suicide
century'" declared Horinz Wortmann,
secretary of the Voluntary Rescue So
ciety, at the second International con
gress of rescue workers Which has just
come to close here. Wortmann declared
that statistics from all parts of the
world showed an appalling increase of
suicides and suicidal attempts.
W. C. T. U. IN SESSION.
World Convention Meets In New York
Today.
New York, Oct. 24 Reports of the
committees showing the results of a
world movement against intemperance,
and a large increase in membership,
were the important matters discussed
at today's sessions of the World's con
vention of the Womens' Christian
Temperance Union, which convened
here yesterday to remain in session six
days. Another important feature of
today's meetings was discussion of the
successful campaign for membership
und the fight against the spread of the
sale of intoxicating liquor in New
Zealand and Australia. The 600 dele
gates today informally discussed a
world-wide campaign which, if plans
do not miscarvy, will be instituted in
every country in the world where
liquors are sold, some time during the
ensuing year. This fight will be car
ried into more than fifty countries and
nations.
Avoid Sedative Cough Medicine.
If yen want to contribute directly to
the eocurreace of capillary bronchitis
and pneumonia use cough Medicines
that contain codine, morphine, heroin
and other sedatives when yen have a
cough or cold. Aa expectorant like
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is what
is needed.. That cleans out the culture
beds or breeding places for the genu
of pneumonia and other gexoa diseases.
That is why pneumonia never results
from a cold when Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy is used. It has a world wide
reputation for its cures. It contains
no morphine or other sedative. For
sale by all-dealers.
