j DUTLI BAKERY TO HAVE MOD
ERN CONVENIENCE.
Reduction of Coat of Operation and
Added Cleanliness,' Features. .
Fred Dutli, owner of the Dutli bak
ery, is making some extensive and
expensive improvements on his place
just north of the track on Fir street.
Mr. Dutli realizes that La Grande is
going to be a bigger place in the near
future and to keep pace with the rap
id advancement of the city is install
ing one of. the most modern bakery
plants in eastern Oregon. The main
improvement consists in the installa
tion of the most modern baking plant
on the market. The new oven is 17.4
by 16 feet and will have capacity of
from five to seven thousand loaves
per day, not counting cakes and cook
ies, which will be baked in this oven.
The oven is a new one, having been
patented just recently. . Two of this
same type, of oven were installed by
the state in the" insane asylum ot
Pendleton by the same man who is in
stalling the one for the local baker,
and they have proven superior to the
best.
. The old style of oven necessitated a j
system of rods running through the !
baking compartment proper,' but the
new invention has done , away with
this arrangement. Another feature
that will make' for cleanliness is the
fact that the fire is not built in tliQ
oven itself but underneath the oven.
Heretofore the fire had to be scraped
out of the oven before .the dough
could be placed in it.
The cost for heating the hewidevice
will be reduced to a minimum, inas
much as oil will heat it for something
like 30 cents a day, with a slightly
higher cost for wood The entire in
terior of the store will be rearranged
to make room for the constantly in
creasing trade, and also to make
room for a modern, up to date bakery
lunch department.' Mr. Dutli ably as
sisted by his genial wife, will, just as
soon as the fixtures have been in
stalled, hold an opening day for their
many patrons. Mr. Dutli had this to
say concerning his new improvements:
"1 intend to make the very best cof
'c in the city and serve the public
with the best and the cleanest baked
goods to be had in this part of the
state." The improvements will cost
in the neighborhood of $2000. The
new oven is being installed by the
Peters Oven company of Portland.

Take Salts to Flush Kidneys If Bark
Hurls or Bladder Bothers.
If you must have your meat every
day, eat it, but flush your kidneys
with salts occasionally, says a noted.
authority who tells us that mea't forms
uric acid which almost paralyzes the
kidneys in their efforts to expel it
from the blood. They become sluggish
and weaken, then you suffer with a
dull misery in the kidney region,
sharp pains in the back or sick head
ache, dizziness, your sloi..nch sours,
tongue is coated and when the wea
ther is bad you have rheumatic twin
ges. The urine gets cloudy, full of j
sediment, the channels often get sore
and irritated, obliging you to seek
relief tow or three times 'ling the
night.
To neutralize these irritating ucids,
to cleanse the kidneys and flush off
the body's urinous waste get four
ounces of Jad Salts from any phar
macy here; take a tablespoonful in a
glass of water before breakfast for
a few days and your kiOnoys will then
act fine. This famous salts is made
from the acid of grapes and lemon
juice, combined with lithia, and has
been used for generations to flush and
stimulate sluggish kidneys, also to
neutralize the acids in urine, so it no
longer irritates, thus ending bladder
weakness.
Jad Salts is inexpensive; cannot in
jure and makes a delightful efferves
cent lithia-water drink. .
. A Freak.
Joe McElroy killed a chicken on
his place Thursday morning that con
tained a curio. From the gizzard ex
tended a left foot quite perfect and
with the nails in the end of the claws.
It is. evident that there was life in the
foot which is perfect , to the first
joint, till the chicken was killed. This
