The Sunday school of St Peter's
parish is divided into five classes. The
first two are studying the history of
Christian missions beginning with the
Great Commission to go out and. evan
gelise the world. This course centers
around the gi-eaVtaissionary leaders
of the Church, Jesus Christ being the
chief and pattern missionary ; The oth
er classes are studying bible stories,
illustrating the love of God and Cre
ator and Father, - ;-''': .,-::
' At the morning services, instead of
regular sermon, the rector is now
giving a series of expositions on St.
Paul's epistle to the Romans. The bi
ble is not read and studied "as it'
should be, and' every pastor is pain
fully aware that the majority of his
parishioners," especially the younger
ones, have but a very scant knowl
edge, of-ita contents. It is also in
creasingly difficult to. get them to
join a bible class and study with any
sort of seriousness.' ' The bible is not
a, magical charm which will work in
dependent of human co-operation. It
is necessary to read, mark, learn and
inwardly digest it in order to obtain
beneficlent results. The rector hopes
he may be able to arouse the Interest
of hia hearers in the study so that
they' will be induced to search the
scriptures , for themselves and find
out that . therein are contained ' the
morels, of .eternal life.'i
' Str Peter's guild after a well earn
ed vacatlorf, has started 'up its activ
ities with already gratifying and en
couraging returns. .' It' hopes soon to
clear Honan hall of its last dollar of

Ladles to Study Polities. -In
order that the ladies of WaHowa
may have a better understanding of
things political, and that they may be
better equipped to apply their right of
suffrage recently given to women of
Oregon, the Ladies' Progressive club
has arranged for a series of lessons
and a course of study, and all women
of the city are invited to take part in
the work of study.' Mrs. J. C. Baid,
president of the club, gives the fol
lowing explanation; v
. Oregon women now have the oppor
tunity to aid in solving the problems
of city, state and nation and it is im
portant that they acquire a better
knowledge of the laws of the society
in which they live. ,
Whether we believe in the exercise
of the ballot or not, we are all united
in desiring a better environment for
the race. ':' Nothing can be accorap
lished by haphazard, ill directed ef
forts. We must' hot only know what
we want but how to get it Thia
knowledge can be gained only by earn-
est conscientious study on the part of
each individual. , " ; , .
For the benefit of those women who
wish to cast their ballot, but would
like to have a better understanding of '
current issues, the state library sends
out a set of books on the science of
government ' The work is outlined to'
cover a year's study,' beginning with
