The 1 effort to have five additional
blocks in this city hard surfaced was
defeated by the city council last night
because of lack of money in the gen
eral fund with which to pay for the
improvement of the intersections. Pal
las operates under a charter indebted
ness limitation of $5,000.
The original outline of improve
ment, including 10 blocks, is now com
pleted and ready for acceptance by
the city.' The construction company
will commence at once to remove its
plant. ;. Plans for improvements of
next year are being discussed, and the
probablt(y is that 10 more blocks wil
be paved. ' . ' v

tions in Polk county are the best in
year. The grain and hay have most
ly been cared for, and from all over
the county bumper crops are reported.

state fair this year in the history of

cage 40 feet square in which will be
shown all varieties of pheasants, ducks
