"I told you so" prognosticators
called the trurn yesterday and dis
satisfaction at. the sending of Moun
tain to the hill to heave for La
Grande in the last game of the pres
ent series, expressed at the outset,
was found to be well grounded, when
"Rocky" allowed himself to be se
verely drubbed by Walla Walla 7-0.
The shut-out was not his fault en
tirely, but the tremendous beating
was. He had nothing on the ball
that Walla Walla couldn't solve,
walked five men and allowed eight
hits, three of which were two bag
gers and better. He pitched in a list
less sort of a way and though the
eight men behind were on their 'toes
and fielded well and tight and did
all in their powers to stave off the
lopsided score, there was no stop
ping the bunched hits. Mountain
was entirely to the bad, and any
pitcher at all would likely have held
the Bears to fewer runs.
Paddy Welch was introduced to
Tri-fltat by Walla Walla and though
he was not particularly wobbly or
anything of that sort, the frequency
with which he was found and relieved
only by the brilliant support the
Bears gave him. Eliminate the lab
bits' feet the Bears carry and they
would have been chasd to death after
flies and hard-hit infield drives. A
large crowd was out and 99 out of
100 of them are panning Mountain
calling for his release.
Martini paved the way for the
first score, an earned one, when he
tripled and came home on lawn's
single. This was in the Htwom in
ning and in the .fourth inning fihoelv.
after a walk, was advanced on Mar
tini's . hit into a fielder's choice,
Johnson sacrificed and when Welch
singled Martini and Shelly scored.
Martini figured in the third couplet
of scores after a clean double and
Johnson's single. Brown sacrificed
Johnson, ahd that "thief" purloined
third and llk&wtae the home bag,
The infield Went to sleep on the first
stel Und when Johnson came up he
exhibited more nerve than the brt
tery thought he possessed and thoug
running pell mell to the plate, Moun
tain was slow in delivery. King
collided with the batter at the same
time dropping the bull but Johnson
was on the pan, a simd succo..s.ve
theft.
In the ninth, Harmon tripled and
Sheely's hit scored him and Duvis
who had been walked just previously.
La Grande had a chance to store
in the eighth, but the support behind
Welch braced for the occasion.
Mountain had doubled, . and when
Beck got on with an error he sfolu
second, Beck, Druhot and Naduuu
went out on infield hits and flies
shutting off runs.

Released Pitcher Wins.
Baker, Ore., May 22. Jensen
pitched his first game for Yakima to
day, and made good after Baker had
released him. Although allowing
more hits than the Gold Diggers
flingers they never came when they
were most needed. . Until the seventh
inning it looked like Baker's game
by a score of three to one, but in
that inx frame the Braves annexed
esven runs, and two hits were all
that were required to do it. Murphy,
Gleason and Harrod did the rest by
mttkinff five bobbles between them
in that one inning.
Nona of . Yakima's runs wore
earned. Their first run was annexed '
in the sixth. Ford sent an easy one j
to Gleason who, customarily, booted i J
it, Ford stole second and third, and I
came home on a sacrific fly to Reid.
Then in the seventh, Seven more.
Krause was pulled in the seventh and
Ward went in. He held the Yaks
scoreless in the eighth, but in the
ninth hit Jansen, and Grover who
was compelled to have Gordon run
for him. Both hit men stole bases
and came home on Engle's single.
Murphy, the first man up in the
fourth for Baker got first on &
booted ball by Jansen, advanced to
second on Engle's bobble of West'
grounder, but went out oJt to Jansen
on a fielder's choice by Harrr
West and Harrod scored by Rock's
single. In the sixth West hit a three
bagger, and scored on Rick's sacri
fice. That was the last of Baker's
scoring.
