mar e J saddle horse killed by lipfct
ning during' the first thunder shower
of the .. season, last Tuesday, -while
they were, graxir.g in a pasture on
Ladd HJL They had some, splendid
mares and colts in the pasture, and
while thy . feel the loss they feel
thankful! that the lightning did not
strike human life.
. Pupils of the Ladd Canyon school
are practicing a program, lasting two
hours, which they will render in the
evening of the closing day of school
Friday, the 16th. Several dialogues
will be acted, some by the older
scholars in the school, and consisting
of five scenes. Fond parents are pre
paring to attend and of course every-,
one will be welcome, and it goes with
out saying that the school house will
be filled to suffocation. Everyone
will be admitted free.
A large crew, consisting of 25 men,
have been pat to work grading: and
laying steel for the saw mill rail
road from Lone Tree station to the
mill up in the canyon. The manager
contemplates having a crew of 60 be
fore long.
Helen Peebler, who has been taking
treatment for spinal mylitis the past
four months at Pendleton, returned
home Saturday. She is able to walk
quite well by the aid of small ankle
braces and by holding to something
occasionally for support Unless she
improves quite fast she will return 1
to Pendleton for farther treatment.
Her parents gave her a little sur-i
prise party the following afternoon
after her arrival in which all the
you riper folks of the neighborhood at- J
tended. The afternoon was spent in
games after which k-e cream and cake (
was served. The little ones present;
were: Alice. Bonchard, Murriel Mul-he-Uand.
