Ladd Canyon, May 6. (Special)
The foot hill road is considered to be
in fair condition, but the valley road
atill has two very bad mud ' holes,
caused chiefly by rising underground
water. Two automobiles . from La
Grande had to be pulled out of them
Saturday and Sunday. Of course the
foot hill road is quite rough on ac
count of the grading which the Camp
bell crew are doing, but nevertheless
they are doing good : work, which
means that we shall have better roads
in the future. . '' ' ' ' .
Miss Ruth Peebler left last Friday
morning for Pendleton to visit her
little sister, Helen, who has been over
there taking ; treatment for , spinal
mylitis. Helen is improving so fast
that the doctor thinks that she can
probably return home , with her to
remain in a week or so.
The house which wae occupied by
Mr. and Mrs. Clair Crossen, and
known as the old Newhard property,
was completely destroyed by lire last
Saturday afternoon, but they were
fortunate enough to save nearly all
their furniture. It is not known how
the fire originated. The farm is not
far from Ladd Canyon. S
William Banton is busily engaged
at the present time building a shed
in which he will hereafter house the
threshing machine separator.
Mr. Wilson is building a small aa
itt, to his home which will be used
as a kitchen when completed.
