Whitney Conditions Are Investigated.
Baker,' April 18. (Spec'al) An
Investigation . into the moral condi
tions of the town of Whitney by the
grand Jury, which took a recess yes
terday, Is not very complimentary to
that municipality and its officials, fo
whlle no indictments were returned
the grand jury reported to the court
that affairs at Whitney were in a de
plorable condition. A number of wl-
nesses were examined and It was e
tabllBhed beyond doubt, according to
the report, that there Is little atten
tion paid in Whitney as regards Sun
day liquor selling, gambling and oth
er vices.
No Indictments wre returned, ac
cording, to the Jury, for the reason
that probably convictions would rfbt
result until further testimony could
be secured. A copy of the report will
be sent to the city council of Whit
ney so that the officials may know'
what 1b going on and that the condi
tions there are under investigation.
