Monday istead of La Grande, as
the authorities ' supposed.-' She1 and
her husband came here together and
as he is a cook by trade she thought
nothing of his disappearance In the
belief that he bad gone to some mln
Ing camp to. work for. a few days.
She bad not read the papers and
did not know untll yesterday that
her husband was In the hospital
when informed by a neighbor.-' She
lmmedlatel ywent to see 1:1m and
then came to the sheriff and told her
story. She does not make very
clear the conditions under which
they left La Grande and came here,
Sbe and her husband had but. recent
ly met after a separation of some
months and some of her statements
are conflicting.
Among the effects of tho lnlured
man was 'found a bank book of the
First National bank of Parkersburg.
W. Va with the original : name
scratched out and Carroll's name sub
stituted. Also a number of blauk
checks on a La Grande' bank were
found and admitting that he bad no
account there, the officers are ques
tioning the reason for his possessing
them. The authorities at La Grande
can give no information as to his
record and as be refuses himself to
talk. It is difficult to get a line on
his past career.

Remarkable Action of a Rem
edy That Drives Every
Speck of Poison From
Body.
There Is a. strange, mysterious power
In a remarknble blood medicine that finds
Its way through the circulation by what
Is known as Divine selection. The rem
edy Is Swift's Sure Bpeclflc, or S. S. S.
Science cannot explain Just why cer
tain elements in the blood feed the bones,
others nourish the hair roots, and so on.
And It Is this same mysterious action of
S. S. S. that attacks all diseased spots,
drives away all germs, heals all sores
and supplants tho activity of disease
germs with the powerful healing action
of leucocytes. Uomurkublo testimonials
have been written that prove beyond
question there Is no blood disease but
what can be cured by S. S. S. And In
all those cases thnt were treated with
mercury, iodides, arsenic, copper and
other minerals with no permanent effect,
the most astor.lrV.lns recoveries hayt
been made by S. 8. 8.
There Is not a blood taint of any na
ture that can remain In a system fortl-
' fled by this most wonderful remedy, for
It Is absolutely pure and contains only
those elements that the blood naturally
assimilates, and which the tlisues grate
fully 1 accept. It agrees with tha most
dollcate stomach, even In those cases
where the use of strong drugs has so
weakened tho dlgontlve system that med
icine cannot be given. Get a 11.00 bottle
rf S. 8. 8. at any drug store and thus be
assured of a complete cure of any erup
tive blood disease. If your ease la pe
culiar and you desire special advice write
