Phelps, returned to hi office ' this
morning after an absence of several
weeks, during which he has been
quarlntined at his home with small
pot. .Work has piled up during , his
absence and he will have a busy time
for a while. The first bill to get his
signature was an order requiring all
parties claiming to be . interested in
tin estate of the late A. M. Erb to ap
pear before April 22 to show cause
why the estate should not revert to
the state of Oregon in' lieu of any

county boy, belongs to the pitching
staff of the Victoria team , of the
Northwest league this year, aocord

Young McQuarry was born In Stil
ton and lived there until five or six
years ago when with his parents he
moved to Tacoma. When an eighth
grade boy, his twirling attracted at
tention and during the followng sum
meer vacaton he pitched In a twi
light league in Tacoma. He was but
fourteen years old at the time and
soon won the pseudonym of "the boy
wonder". Bob Brown pf Vancouver
signed him when he was fifteen and
farmed htm out for a couple of years
with Moosjaw and Wlnnepeg teams.

was nipped in the hud here yesterday
when the' woman's uncle, M. A. Bates,
of Parma, Idaho, assisted by the local
officers,', apprehended the couple' 1n a
local lodging house, says the Pendle
ton E, -O. " The, erring wife was tak
en back to her husband,, while the un
natural ' brother was put aboard the
first westbound train' and told to
keep .away'from his home city If he
valued his skin. The manj'y whos
name is Henry Lee Rose, arrived here
gffturday with h's sister-in-law, Elsie
Maud Rose;' He is 21 years pf age
and she is 22. ' Yesterday M. A. Bates
who Is police Judge at Parma, arrived
and it was not long before Officer Ira
Hughes recogonlzed the couple on
the street from the description given.
The woman showed a willingness to
go back home, hut Mr. Bates was
afraid to take the man back fpr fear
he would be mobbed by his Indignant
townsmen. When the couple parted.
there was much weeping and walling
and an osculatory goodbye.
