Immediate Actios on Contest in Both
Counties. (
Announcement was made Wednes
day morning by John Hodgln of La
Grande that he would contest the re
sult of the election, and call for a
new count of the votes In both Wal
lowa and Union counties, says the
Wallowa 6un. The Sun continues:
Mr. Hodgln was the Democratic
nominee for Joint senator from the
two counties, running against Ed E.
Kiddle of Island City, who was th
Republican nominee. The official re
sult as shown by the canvas of the
vote .In- both counties, gives Kiddle a
majority of four votes, and Mr. Hod
gin belleves'lhat a new count will
make a material change in the vote.
Mr. Hodgln refused to state the
grounds upon which he would aBk
for a recount, stating to a represen
tative of the Sun that he did not care
to make public the details until the
charges were filed. "I expect to take
the matter up Immediately," he said
"but until that time, I do not care
to go into the details."
Mr. Kiddle at Island City Is not
worrying over the outcome. An
official count of the vote has already
given him the election, and there Is
no reason to believe that a second
count would change It.
