I Watch for the
stct?)rl I art aye
On the streets of La Grande observe those whose
gowns look just a little different, fit a httle better,
showing neatness and class. And if you care to inves
tigate invariably you will find those ladies customers of
our store. ' '
Long years of service teaches us what to buy;
teaches us what the real late styles consist of, and this
means much to the customer.
Call and let us explain more fully.

J. I mm WRITES FROM
NEW DISTRICT III IDAHO
Boise, Oct 6. (To the Editor)
"Were I a disciple ot Fate, I would
think her Nemesis wire on my trail;
tor, while a former district I hud ex
tended from Seven Devils to Paradise,
Jlils one I now sirve has been so made
- that It reaches from the same Seven
Devils to Bliss. I prefer .starting at
the diabolical end of the tramp and
ending In the place with so happy a
name, but to be frank: If the latter
were not named it would be hard
tor a foreigner to tell the difference
between the two. Yot there are worse
places than either. "What's in a
: name, anyway!"
My work keeps me on the road all
the time, but there are more miles of
railway than I had in tlio La Grande
country and It is easier to get to and
from my appointments, all but half a
dozen or so can be reached by steam
or trolley. A few, such as Ola, Thun
der, Koscberry and Jordan Valley must
be found by stase lint). The latter is
the only one of my appoimmei'ls In
the state of Oregon.
Much of the country is under new
irrigation projects and all of It de
pends upon tbe friendly ditch. The
highest dam in tbe world is being cre
ated at Arrow rock a few miles up the
Doise river; this is to cover many
square miles of sagebrush acreage,
making it over into as good fruitful
fields of farming possibilities as are
to be found anywhere. Several new
towns are springing up in different
planes in those new tracts, such as
Wilder, Homedale, Oreenleaf and oth
ers. Some of these are making elab
orate pnetensions to citified character
already and are planning long-headed
1- for a future that is as certain
as water In the ditches is certain.
They have this assurance too, that so
long as Nature keeps-her health and
operates normally, thene will be the
usual winter snow, the summer sun
melting It and the force. of gravity
regulating tbe water thus generated.
Nothing is surer than the seed time
and harvest of these Irrigators.
The wheat and oats crops tills year
are yielding finely and the corn is av
eraging well. Thousands of crates of
melons are rotting In the fields, as
there was not a very good market for
them, the season being so wet and
chilly- they did not come to their best
in flavor. Ideal Idaho and ozonic
Oregon moke good companions for
mighty Montana, wealthy Washington
and wonderful Wyoming, a grand
company of states second to none in
the world an empire of possibilities
as yet almost untouched. I am glad
to be alive and have a place In the
activities of the youth-filled yeomen
In all classes and among all crafts
of the Elysain Northwest.
J. D. GILLILAN.
NATURE'S
PERFECT TONIG
hk Something more than an ordinary tonic Is required to restore health to
fa weakened, run-down system; the medicino must possess blood-purifying
'properties as well, because the weakness and impurity of the circulation Is
responsible for the poor physical condition. The blood does not contain
the necessary quantity of rich, red corpuscles, and is therefore a weak,
watery stream which cannot allord sutlicientnourishment to sustain the
ystem in ordinary health. A poorly nourished body cannot resist disease,
and this explains why so many persons are attacked by a spell of
Blcknesa when the use of a good tonio would have provented the trouble.
In S. S. S. will be found both Mood-cleansing and tonio qualities combined.
It builds up wenk constitutions by removing all impurities and germs from
ao blood, thus supplying a certain means for restoring strength anil
Invigorating the system. Tim healthful, vegetable ingredients of which
. S. S. 13 composed make it splendidly fitted to the needs of those systems
Vhlch are delicate from any cause. It is Nature's Perfect Tonic, free from
Jl harmful minerals, a safe and pleasant acting medicine for persona ot
very age. 8. S. S. rids the body of that tired, worn-out feeling so common
et this Beason, Improves the appetite and digestion, toues up the stomach,
fccts with pleasing etlects on t ha nervous svstem, and relnrtgorntes every
portion of the body. THE SWIFT SPECIFIC CO., ATLANTA, GA.
