Approximately 50,000 people wit
nessed the third annual Round-up,
according to estimates made by the
directors this morning. The paid ad
missions amounted to something ovei
40,000, which with the courtesy gueste
; and those allowed to enter Saturdaj
without paying after the gates had
been closed will bring the total up to
50,000.
According to Treasurer George A.
Hartman, the cash receipts for the
three days will reach over $35,000 and
under $36,000, which is $15,000 ap
proximately more than the revenue
from the 1911 Bhow. ...
This la more than satisfactory to the
I management for it will give them a
I considerable surplus after all ex-
penses are paid and with which tbey
can further Improve the park and pre
pare for the show next year.

body else on the wonderful and un

they were able to lay bands was made

Tbe Best Yet," Sajs Judge.
C. F. Howard of Denver, the chair
man of the Judges at the Rouna-ui,
declared this morning that the Round
up la unquestionably the best show ol
Its kind ever staged. "I have seen
them all," be said, "have traveled with
them .gone to Europe with Buffalo
Bill, staged them myself and acted as
judge many times, but none ever ap
p roach ed the standard set by tbe
Round-up."
Derisions Are Popular.
One thing that Is helping In the
good feeling after tbe show is the
fact that the decisions of the Judges
were popular. Not 'a criticism has
been heard from spectators or from
performers. All seem satisfied that
L. W. Minor of Wallowa, was tbe best
broncho buster at the show. There
was some little dissatisfaction ex
pressed yesterday when It was re
ported that the directors had reversed
tbe derision of the judges in the pony
express race on the grounds that Ja
son Stanley, declared the winner,
had lost one of his horses during bis
last race. However, today, the di
rectors announced that the decision
of tbe judges stands and that Jason
Stanley for the second time is the
champion pony express rider of the
world.
Roach Is Champion Steer Roper.
However, Dell Blanchett has not
been allowed to retain the title of
champion steer roper and that honor
has been given to Jim Roach of Mea
cham, who was originally named as
second place winner. Blancett had
roped on Friday and hU time was
poor. However, he appeared again on
the field Saturday as the representa
tive of Dick Parker, who had his leg
broken during the Friday wild horse
race, and surce eded In throwing his
steer In the fastest time of the week.
However, it was finally ruled that he
had no right to appear for Parker and
yet, fishing to give Parker a fair deal,
the directors voted him $150 and con
ferred the title and the first prize on
Roach, the legitimate winner. Jason
Stanley was advanced from third to
second and Charles Reinhart, of this
city, was given third money.
The opinion of the cowboys over
the Judging of tbe events was reflect
ed by Jim Clark, the John Day stock
man, this morning when he declared It
was absolutely fair and Impartial. "We
all agree that Minor made the best
ride," he said, "and we know he
didn't have any pull, for he was almost
unknown when he entered."
Mr. Howard, In speaking of the de
cision In the bucking contest, declared
the judges were of one opinion and
that they had taken their notes sep
arately. "I never saw JMnor before
I came here,' declared the judge, "but
to my mind he was the best rider and
entitled to the prize. Some people
have criticized us for leaving more of
the cowboys who made good rides
out of the finals, but we were not
Judging on the rides altogether. . We
made.it plain to the contestants' that
we would , take Into consideration "all
of the things which make for good
horsemanship, for instance, how the
man approaches the animal, how he
puts on his saddle and how he mounts
There were at least two contestants
who made good rides but who were
eliminated because they grabbed hold
of the horn with one hand and the
contel with the other, Just like a ten
derfoot, when tl.ey mounted.
"Everyone has treated us fine here
and the directors In particular have
showed us every courtesy. You have
a great show and I hope to be back to
see it next year."
The Oregon housewife should feel
