, Wheat In Grande Ronde.
Vp until this afternoon threshrme
of Union county have had a very suc
cessful week, and granarle8 have been
filling rapidly. But while the splendid
crop of wheat Is being threshed, there
Is tut little movement In the sale
line. What few, deala have been clos
ed bring an average of 67 or 68 cents
but not enough has been sold to dale
to be Indicative of what the prices lo
cally will really be.
Invariably threshing reports bring
In fine returns.' The grain Is of a good
variety and with the prices likely to
be between 65 and 70 cents the wheat
raisers face a profltabl fall. Today's
rain lias had a tendency of halting the
threshing yet there seems little ques
tion but that the work will proceed
more or less regularly until the crop
Is harvested.

In regard to the above order, more
fully elaborated upon yesterday, Post
master G. M. Richey today Issued a
statement covering conditions as they
will exist here. The statement says:
I In acordanoe with above orders,
malls arriving upon trains' 18 and 9
Saturday night will be worked as be
fore, when on time; If late, the mail
will be held together with malls ar
riving upon Sunday, and the letters
worked out and distributed to boxes
Sunday evening, between the hours of j
6 and 10. Letters for persons In care
of hotels, will be' worked out upon
trains, and delivered promptly to the
hotel boxes. Specials will be deliver
ed upon arrival, papers and periodi
cals can be had by the news dealers
by calling for same.
This change will reduce the work,
so as to enable clerks and carriers
to realize the day for rest and recrea
tion. Barring the delay of about ten
hours In working out Sunday malls,
the service locally will be about the
same as before. After the patrons be
come accustomed to the change, there
will probably be very little inconveni
ence resulting thereby. All out-going
malls will be dispatched as before.

La Grande's batting rally in the
eighth iunlng threw a scare into Wal
la Walla in the game at Sportsman
park yesterday, but the Bears atop
ped It in time and Walla Walla won,
6 to 5.
Up to the eighth it was Walla Wal
lu's game. Then King, the La Grande
catcher slashed out a bit. He was fol
lowed by Lomand, who went out
Jamison got a three base hit scoring
King. Naughton followed with a bit
scoring Jamison. McBrlde went out.
Haratead who replaced Fltchner when
the latter was benched for disobeying
King's orders about running out bits,
swatted the horsehide far enough to
let In Naughton. Pugsley's hit scored
Harstead. Then the Bears got busy
and refused to allow any more. La
Orande bad already annexed two in
the fourth and the three began to
loom up big.
Walla Walla got her runs In the
first when Davis and two more cros
sed over. Another was secured in
the second, one In the fourth and one,
In the seventh.
Features or the game were Thomp
son's one hand catch of a hot liner
that looked good for one base and
Martini's long run and catch near the
left foul line.
