Interesting Air Competition.
Berlin, Aug. 16: Much Interest U
manifested In the series of aircraft
competition scheduled to begin torn
morrow at Gotha, under the patron-
aye of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and
Gotlia. The competitions are In line
with Germany's well formed plans to
out distance other European nations
In the development of aircraft for mil
itary purposes. Prizes of consider
able value are offered for the best re
sults attained In aiming missiles from
airships and aeroplanes and In tak
ing photographs from flying machines.
Secretary Wilson 77 Years Old.
Washington, D. C, Aug. 16: Sec
retary Wilson, head of the Depart
ment of Agriculture, reached his sev
enty-seventh birthday anniversary to
day. Time has dealt leniently with
the Secretary, who apparently lis as
rigorous as the average man of fifty,
No other executive officer In the Gov-
ernment service In Washington has
anything on "Farmer Jim" when It
comes to putting in a full day of
eight or ten hours at the desk. Mr.
Wilson Is a native of Scotland, which
fact, so his friends laughingly assert,
accounts for his ability to hold his Job
longer, than any other cabinet officer
In the history of the country. He was
appointed Secretary of Agriculture by
President McKinley In 1897 and has
served continuously ever since.

PROGRESSIVES ATTENTION!
We do not care whether you are a progressive or
a stand-patter politically, if you intend to bq a pro
gressive financially, you must be very careful in your
land dealings. Nine-tenths of the land titles in Un
ion county are defective in some way. Buying a bad
title means lawsuits and unnecessary expense. De
mand an abstract to the property you are going to
purchase. This will show up all defects and irregu
larities, then let the other fellow stand the expense
of correcting the title.
