kinds on display, plenty of high class
amusements, a good program and a
general good time.
Cove people know how to entertain.
They lay aside all the frills and furbe
lows, and get right down to good old
fashioned friendship the kind that
rings true. They are not entertaining
'with any Idea of getting anypne's
money for everything Is free. They
want the good will of Eastern Ore
gon and tbey want to show people
Jut what splendid fruit their district
produces, which Is right and proper,
for Cove Is one of tbe selected spots
In this whole country thnt will raise
excellent fruit and do It regularly.
At every national and international
exposition where the Cove cherry hai
been exhibited first prices have been
awarded. Loving cups and badges of
honor are very common among the
Cove people. They know when they
pnt up an exhibit that the other fol
low must produce something extraor
dinary if the prize does not go to
Cove.
It will do everyone good to go to
Cove Friday. It will make you young
er In spirits, feci better toward your
neighbor and refresh your recollec
tion of the days when celebrations
were held just for the purpose of pro
moting good fellowship.

granted shows that Councilman Lilly
and Councilman JIarkey voted against
Increasing the number of licenses
from eight to ten.
This Is decidedly to tbe credit and
good Judgment of these gentlemen
and shows they were alert to the sit
uation and not carried, away by the
addition of $2,000 a year to the city's
revenue.
One strange feature of Ordinance
No. 608. Series 1912. which amended
Ordinance No. 495. series 1910 and op
ened tbe way for two more licenses Is
that an emergency clause was affixed
Mackev and Lilly not only voted
against the passage of the ordinance
but they voted against the emergency
clause also.
Just how the "peace, health and
safety, etc." of the people of La
Grande could be affected by not hav
ing ten liquor licenses instead of eight
Is more than can be well understood.

Mr. Mackcy and Mr. Lilly voted
against the ordinance, and In so do
ing we believe they reflected the sen
timent of a large majority of the vot
ers of this city. ,
