grown people living in La Grande to
entitle them to draw books Is that
they sign an application card, giving
name and address and promise to
abltte by the simple rules imposed by
the. 'committee. These rules allow
one book to be taken out at a time
on a card and kept for two weeks:
fine of one cent a day is required if
the book is kept overtime. Books lost
or Injured would naturally have to bo
replaced.
Anyone outside the city must obtain
the signature of a resident tax-payer
on his application card, and children
under 16 must obtain the signature
of parent or guardian.
There are at present one thousand
books In the collection but this will
be added to continually. Aside from
action which Includes many standard
work as well as later novels,, there are
books on debating, psychology and ed
ucation, taxation, city . government,
farming and the care of animals, sci
ence, art, music, literature, biography,
history and travel. United States ko-
lernment documents and Oregon stale
documents may be consulted st the
library; these includes laws and stat
utes, reports of the Historical society
and the year books of the department
of agriculture. t
The children's books include stor
ies, fairy tales and fables, biographies
histories, books on games and amuse
ments, telegraphy, air chips, camping,
etc.
It is planned to publish in the news
paper from week to week lists of the
books on different subjects for In
stance, one list would include all the
biographies, another all the works on
farming and agriculture, etc. Anyone
interested In any of these subjects
could keep the list for reference, and
bring It to the library as a guide wnen
consulting the books.

Every good house-wife should be
interested in electric cooking
for Summer months.
Summer months are very trying on the house wife. Sweltering over
cook stove Is no Joke In hot weather. No man has a right to ex
pect It of bis wife, and no wife has a right to sacrifice her health,
her youth and her good looks.
Don't Be a slave to an ancient cook
stove. Cook with electricity.
Cook in a cool kitchen and save from one-third to one-half your
. time with no wood nor ashes to'bother with; no soot, smoke nor. dirt
Electric cooking practically cuts ypur kitchen hours In half. Its
; value In comfort . and freedom from' drudgery cannot be over esti
mated. - . - .

from plates to ranges. The line .s too varied to describe In this lim
ited space, but they can be seen at our office at any time. They a
are priced low enough to be within the means of 'all. We make a spe
