Promotion Comes to J. H. O'Nell After
Long Service.
J. K. (Jack) O'Nell has been trans
feree! from the Eastern Oregon divi
sion of the O.-W. and no announce
ment has been made of his successor.
The news of Mr. O'Xeil's promotion to
Portland Is told as follows in a Port
land paper: ,
J. H. O'Nell for 17 years traveling
passenger agent for the O.-W. R. & N,
company in Portland, has been pro-
muted to the position of district pas
senger agent for the company In Se
attle, to take the place of E. E. Ellis
resigned. Notice of the appotntmeut
was given yesterday by J. D. Farrell,
president of the company, to take ef
fect July 6th. Mr. O'Nell left for Se
attle last night, preparatory to taking
charge of the office.
Mr. O'Xeil first entered the employ
of the company In' 1889, 23 years ago,
holding the position then of ticket ex
changer. He was promoted to the po
sition of traveling passenger agent In
1S95. In 1900 he had charge of the
state-wide tour of a special train In
which Wllllnm Jennings Bryan male
his pre-conventlon campaign in Ore
gon. He Is widely known on the Pa
cific coast, particularly In Oregon m:d
Washington.
Mr. Ellis has resigned from the posi
tion held for nearly 23 years. He has
planned a hunting trip In British
Columbia In the near future. Next
fall he and T. E. Jones will go to Ala
ka on a hunting trip.
