George Craig escapes the peniten
tiary for assaulting Jim Slack at the
sugar factory a few-months ago dur
ing a quarrel. The Jury returned a
verdict last night after short deliber
ations, freeing Craig of the assault
with Intent to kill charge, but did
find htm guilty of assault There
were three optional courses before
the Jury to find him guilty as chart
ed, guilty of assault, or not guilty;,
and the second verdict was found. The
sentence will be pronounced later. The
cuttlng for which Craig was on trial,,
occured one evening at the sugar fac
tory and It was by the merest chance;
that Slack was not killed outright.
