out of a Job and so I turned to real
estate. That was some business. Af
ter working like a dog for two weeks
discovered that I had earned $9.68.
The work was interesting all right,
but I had to eat, so I went to see Fer
ris Hartman. He needed a man to
carry an umbrella on the stage in
one act and I was the only man he
coild find who would take the salary
he wanted to pay.
'That settled It. '. The next week I
carried a spear and - the week after
that I carried a musket. You see I
kept advancing all the time."
