rebuilding began almost as soon as
the ruins cooled. The federal census
taken a year afterward showed a pop
ulation of 19,222.
"The l'nlon Pacific and the Great
Northern roads came In S90 and 1892.
respectively, Spokane continued to
grow nnd In 1900 the census figures
were plncsii at 3G.SI2, and 10 years
afterward, or two years ago, . Uncle
Sam's enumerators gave the city a
