for appendicitis a week ago, Is getting
along as nicely as could te expected.
Mr, Stump was recently married at
Spokane and had brought his bride to
his mother's . homo, Mrs. Medy Brou
chard's, for a visit when he was sud
denly taken 111. After a week's illness
his conditions became too serious for
a removal to a hospital so Dr. C. H.
Upton tame out and performed the

Neil McClure Is in Portland where
he has been for over a week on a visit.
Mrs. Marie Larm returned home
from Grants Pass last evening whore
she has been the greater part of the

ert Baden-Powell, the hero of Mafe
j king and the founder and chief scout
of pe British Boy Scouts, arrives
here from Kingston, Jamaica, on the
steamer Arcadian which Is due in this
port tomorrow, he will meet with an
enthusiastic welcome. Extensive ar
rangements have been made for wel
coming him upon his arrival and for
entertaining him during his visit tc
this city. The .principal object ot
General Baden-Powell's tour is to fur
ther the boy scout movement of which
he is the father. His tour will last
six weeks and will take him to a num.
ber of the largest cities of the United
States and Canada. ;
During his stay In New York SSr
; Robert will be royally entertained. He
will attend the second annual meeting
of the National Council of the !By
Scouts of America which will be held
there February 9th, and on the follow
ing day he will witness a demonstra-
, tion of scout activities by more than
5,000 boy scouts. On the evening of
that day the general will give an illus
trated lecture on "Scouting in Peace
and'War." He will also visit the Geo.
