' On one occasion General Scott at
tended a banquet -where all the states
of the Union were represented by a
dish Jn some way characteristic of
each commonwealth. Pennsylvania
was represented by a bowl of sauer
kraut, and In speaking of the fact the
next morning the general remarked, "I
