EXPOSITION BUILDING TO BE OP
EX EVERY DAY.
Winnipeg Will Aid "Back to the Farm'
iiu. t . KoTement Materially.
Winnipeg, Man., Jan. 17. S(pecial)
A new Idea in a city's aid to the
"back to the farm movement'.' has
sprung from land shows, private and
quasi-public enterprises, In the United
States a free exposition in a new
exposition building in the heart of Win
nipeg. This was launched after the
consideration of many plans by the
Development and Industrial Bureau
1n preparation for the opening .of the
grand Trunk Pacific's new transcon
tinental line which will open up a
great empire of virgin country be
tween Edmonton and Prince Rupert
on the Pacific ocean.' The exposition
is to be open every day In the year
for the next three years with the ex
ception of 'Sunday and holidays.
The exploitation by a city of the
resources of Its territory is consider
ed a long step toward the readjust
ment of population between the city
and the country, a subject of much
discussion in the United States. .
There will be an auditorium, a mu
seum and a great exhibit hall where
all the exhibits will have to conform
to a standard fixed by the. Winnipeg
bureau.
The museum promises to be an im
portant feature of the exposition for
many interesting exhibits of the fauna
and flora of Western Canada are as
sembled and will be added to as rap
idly as possible. The Grand ' Trunk
Pacific has opened a territory from
which many new and rare specimens
have been secured for some of the
wildest mountains peaks and valleys of
the Canadian Rockies have been dis
covered since the first reconnaissance
was made. The auditorium Is to be
used for conventions and other gath
erings and for lectures which it Is ex
pected, will be attended by many
classes of school and college students
with their teachers.
With the first announcement of the
plan applications for space began to
pour in upon Secretary Charles F. Ro
land. One of the rules established
was "no object or article of a danger
ous or detrimental character or in
compatible with the object or decorum
of the exposition or the safety or the
comfort of the public, and no live ani
mals shall be brought into the expo
sition building."
"The hall of Industry is a develop
ment of the Idea of the city museum
and convention hall and a land show"
says Secretary Roland. "Members of
the bureau saw Immediately when the
plan was proposed that it was a solu
tion of the many 'things it has been
striving for."
