'Fred Gasklll had an experience yes
terday that he will remember for a
short time at least. While driving
one of those high stepping single driv
ers of his hitched to a cutter east of
La Grande, the horse showed a burst
of speed and turned the sleigh over,
spilling Fred Into a suow drift. A
neighbor caugSit the horse after its
owner had trudged through several
inches of snow for more than half a
mile. No damage was done except to
Fred's inward feelings.

ed. It Is called the "Knights of the
Single Life.' and has for a member

Charlie Williams of the Red Cross
store and Mr. Blackwell of the Casli
Bazaar spend considerable time these
days arguing this question: . "Which
side should a genuine buckaroo carry
his pistol and scabbard on?" For a
time money was put up, Williams
claiming the left side and Blackwell
contending for the right side. Enthus
iasm cooled for a short time but now
the old ardor Is up again. The ques
tion is respectfully referred to John
Spain or some of the other buckaroos
who exhibited at the Pendleton round
up. It might be well for the Pendle
ton commercial club to take up this
question and forever settle It In an
ethical manner.
