vocation of their calling last Monday
night and dabbled with society. How
' well they succeeded In their annual
dlj) Into things social is best attested
by the universal praise coming from
those who attended, and these were
many. Unique In decoration and well
attended, there was nothing but suc
cess to mark every turn of the affair.
Bound to devise somthlng new the
firemen got away from the usual mode
of decoration. In Its stead they swung
railroad lanterns from the ceiling and
mirrors decorated the wall space. Sig
nal flags used by trainmen were also
used with good effect In lending tone
and fashion to the , general soheme.
Outside the Elks' building where the
dancing was held, was msslng us
ual monotony by the presence of fir
trees nnd branches, well lighted and
of the event are deserving of prulse
arranged. The committees In charge
praise for the well planned details.
Tho number of dancers was sufficient
to warrant the statement that the fl re
ason's ball Is a big event. The floor
was filled with dancers tho entire eve
ning und the best of order was main
tained from start to -finish. The mu
sic was good, too, which all the morn
lidded to the attractiveness of tho
event.
Fifty odd couples were guests Wed
nesday night of tho Mllem girls, com
prising .Miss Mae White, Miss Irene
Murphy, Miss Lena Jones. Miss Etta
Foloy and Miss Mildred Cook. Tho
UBiiul standard reached by these pur
ties during the winter were amply
maintained and tho dancers were
greatly pleased with the party. Dur
ing the past winter this club has been
sponsor for several extremely delight
ful parties and this week's event was
enjoyed fully as much ns any of the
others. Tho young ladies have in mind
another party for a date some time In
February but exact details and (late
have not been mentioned.
Leap year took its first tanglblo
shape last evening when at a regular
party of the L. T). S. amusement hull
series, the Indies took tho initiative
In arranging dances. Hoys got but
one opportunity to select pursers dur
ing the evening The young ladles
took hold of this bit of detail with a
vim.
Mrs. Laura Green, Wills was hostess
to the La Jaunesse club this week, en
tnlnlng at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Green. The club
members were busy with sewing until
the refreshment hour with an infor
mal oyster spread was partaken of.

Mrs. Jess Paul charmingly enter-
thlned the New Idea club this week,
the usual :luh membership bolng well
represented. Refreshments und sew
ing made up the program for the af
ternoon, Mrs. T. J. Scrogglns entertained tho
afternoon division of the Knffeo KlnU'h
yesterday afternoon at the Scragging
home, corner Fourth and Washington.
The evening section meets next Fri
day night.
Next Tuesday night is the next Five
Hundred card party dale for the Elks
and their lady friends. This social
venture has developed to lie one of
the very best of the Ellis' social career
this winter.
