At assembly Wednesday morning
the student body was entertained .with
two selections, r'rant.en's College Life
March, with a vocal chorus and Ver
di's Rlgoletto from Bella Dell' Amore,
sung by an Italian quartet. Attorney
Charles E. Cochran gave a lecture on
the subject "Law Givers, Ancient and
Modern." During tho discourse he
gave the history of law from 2,000
years before Christ until the present
day. '

Dr. Lewtas lectured In the auditor
ium Thursday evening Id a small but
ii well pleased audionie. In two hours
he traveled with them through Eng
land, Scotland, Ireland, France and
Italy, showing the principle sights by
moans of stereoptlcon slides and ex
plaining conditions In a way that pro
duced great Interest in the travels.

The muslc classes now devote an
entire period a week to the training

ment. The entertainment by the Tillicum
society which had been postponed till
next Friday has been Indefinitely post
poned on account of conlliit with oth
er high school events to bo held about
tho same date.

ing on a practical system which has
been arranged especially for their

of a resolution adopted by the com
mon council of the city of La Grande,
Oregon, on the 27th day of December,
1911, creating a special improvement
district, the property hereinafter de
scribed ns such district and tho coun
cil proposes to assess the cost of the
sewer to tho extent of the cost of an
eight Inch sewer, the amount of each
property owner's assessment being
stated In said resolution, the council
will ten days after the service of this
notice upon the owners of the proper
ty affected and benefited by such Im
provement, levy said assessment; that
tho boundaries of said district to bo
so improved are the exterior lines of
the property hereinafter described as
being benefitted, viz:
