Denied the privilege of naming one
non-Enterprise official for the much
day night, the La Grande high school
touted game at Enterprise last Satur
tlve turned the trick ana refused to
play at all, returning to La Grande
yesterday afternoon with only two ot
the scheduled games played. The trou
ble at Enterprise was made short liv
ed by noiseless refusal on the part
of La Grande to be governed entirely
by Enterprise in view of the develop
ments of the night before. The "fly
up" came like a shower out of a clear
sky for the La Grande team and the
Enterprise players and captains had
agreed on .Merill Guilders to referee
one half and umpire one half of the
deciding' contest. Under these satis
factory agreements both teams dres
sed and were reudy for the fray when
Prof. Shirk of Enterprise appeared
on the scene demanding that both of
ficials be named from Enterprise. Tho
upshot was that there was no game,
notwithstanding the houso was tilled
wit lithe highly excited contingents
Disinterested spectators commend the
action of the Ijii Grande players in
leaving the dispute zone without cre
ating trouble.
Funds Are Withhold.
The La Grande management had
closed a contract to get $25 expense
money for each game played at En
terprise, but wero forced to come away
without any monetary reimbursement,
as A. C. Miller, cus'odlun of funds
from the llrst game, refused to give
over tho $23 duo La Grande from the
llrst game. It will bo taken up later,
however, and Mr. Miller Hi probabbly
merely holding the money until he!
gets . further instructions from the I
prise and Joseph and surrounding
country to witness the big struggle
and when La Grande was refused her
official, the visiting delegations set
up a lusty howl aimed at Enterprise.
A second team game was arranged so.
that of those who wished were able
to see a basketball game just the
same, though not the one they intend-,
ed to witness.

couple of fast men but lacks uniform
