t tioned. Mr. Cherry is not devoting
his time and money to this purpose for
any pecuniary benefit but is helping

outlay of cash and he is anxious to get
other business and professional men
interested In the same movement. The
program at the Isls will be largely at
tended .by the boys, but Mr. Cherry,
and the boys, too, are anxious to have

PLUCKY CLERK SAVES BANK.

Vancouver, B. C. Doc. 20. The pluck
f Arthur Rlbbs, a cleric In the North
ern Crown bank at Central Park, a
suburb of Vancouver, saved that In
stitution from a robbery about mld-
nlght last nlgtit. Bibbs Bleeps In the
bank and was preparing for bed -when
he heard some one trying the rear door
of the bank. WtJ. a pistol Vtn his hand
he opened the door quickly and com
menced firing at two masked robbers.
The robbers returned the fire and one
o fine shots went through Bibbs hand.
The robbers then ran away down the
alley and disappeared In the darkness.
Bibbs was brought to a hospital where
his wound was taken care of.

this city, entertained forty negroes at
dinner. Representative Oscar W. Un
derwood of Alabama, leader of f..j

ton. The directors of the Jean school
fund, a colored organization, held
their annual meeting In this city and
following it they held a banquet.

The banquet was held lnthe annex
of the hotel, The management at

Peter Taylor, .Jr., manager of the
hotel said that the banquet was a mis
take. He said that when Lewis made
arrangements for the spread he gave
him the Impression that there"--were
to be only a few colored men and the
remainder ofthe guests were to be
white.
The Arlington annex Is an old fash
ioned red brick building close to the
