In your Thanksgiving issue you commented lightly on the probable re sults of the city election, aad that Mr. Viueu" election for mayor was not probable, as the business interests would not vote that way bellevli? that a socialistic victory would impair tn credit of the city." I want to ask the edii. r to cite me to a single Instance where such is the case? I am orepa'ed to prove that such is not the case; and that in every Instance where socialis tic government has bad full power, the credit has been brought to u high standard. T I consider the above statement very poor logic, and misleading hs coming from the editor; he undoubtedly .has not investigated socialism to any great extent, and If the above statement or reason le the only one no cauio i wanting a socialistic city administra tion he had better try and persuade the so-called business interests to vote for Wines. The credit of the city depends largely on how the affairs are handled. Any city to have abund ant credit (unquestioned) must be managed along conservative lines within the bounds of available re sources; and to do this, the good will and hearty co-operation of the tax payers and citizens at large must be maintained, so that the warrants can be kept at par. While I do not know as much about the clty'B affairs as' some, i can see very plainly thai it doesn't take a Debs to know that its credit Is about to the limit. Further more, the taxpayers haven't overlook ed the fact that they are paying intei est on some $14000.00 water bonds, of which the money has never been ued for any .legitimate purpose, to tlieir knowledge. Is this conservative finan ciering, mismanagement, or pulling the wool over the people's eyes? ' How about the Second street pipe line, which costs the tax payers snine $3,000.00 more than the original con tract to get a satisfactory job? And how about the committee report on the falsification of the records, con cerning the acceptance of sail line? The report must have died; and ye the editor seems to want some more of this same "dope" so' that ho ma die also. I supose this kind of doc terlng Is what makes the city's credit so healthy? The tax payers and vot ers who are paying the bills hive not been deaf and blind all together; the are taking their medicine with a gtain of salt, and at the coming election will no doubt prefer something more agree able for the pallet. Right here allow me to Impress our well meaning editor, that under a so cialistic administration he need have no fear as our1 concoction will be a) 110161 pure and without adultera tion, v " '. ' Our policies are to establish bet;er financial conditions for all. We be lieve in public Improvements and lu beautifying the city to the extent thai we are able without impairing its cred it; we do not believe In uBlng arbi trary olllclal power where matters of public Interest are at stake; we be lieve the people should have a voice In all matters pertaining to public works and that every adult citizen (male or female) should have the right of suff rage. ' . 1 In conclusion, will Bay that no doubt on Dee. Uth, the voters will voice their seutlments ot approval or dls-( approval, on the administration they have been receiving In the past six years. , Respectfully yours. GEOr.GK J. WAGEN'ER. Candidate for City uecordir In the above, communication Mr Wagoner doubts the titiitorlal nssertio-i of this paper as to what will follow If socialism is accepted In this el'y, but he does net point to some of the eastern cities which have had my utiplensnnt experiences after electing a socialist administration.- There Is; positive proof by men hero familiar wlih some of those cities to the effect ! that after press dispatches announced ' to the world that s. certafn eastern f Uy had elected a socialist administration there waa an influx of Idle men from adjacent country, many of whom i NOTICE. There Is also proof in plenty that, the municipal bonds of a city that has cho sen socialism are neither sought nor desired In the usual avenues of trade that purchase bonds. ' ' , Mr.' Wegener's reference to the edi tor of this paper seems to bear a tinge of sarcasm all of which Is over looked because of a realization that he is a candidate and wanted to make his communication as "peppery" as pos sible to attract attention of the voters. But the fact remains that if La Grand elects a socialist administration sho has crippled herself materially and rendered unto herself a business In Jury which will require a long period of time to overcome. This is a truth which every property owner and every person seeking to advance the cit? should take to the polls with him next Monday. ' NOTICE. .
