Trading In the potato market here
has been brought to an abrupt stop
owing to the determination of grow
ers to told.
Markets elsewhere are not snowing
the improvement expected and there
fore prices being bid by shippers are
far out of line with what growers are
expecting, .v.
The cat has been let out pf the bag,
explaining the reason why California
potato dealers were so anxious to
boost the price in Oregon. It is stated
on good authority that 2,000,000 bags
of potatoes remain unsold in Cali
fornia at this time, 500,000 of which
are alleged to be in the hands of Geo.

California dealers are making a
desperate effort to take away the po
tato trade of Arizona from this sec
tion and by boosting prices here so
that growers would not sell, the south'
era dealers would therefore be able
to undersell their northern competi

Notwithstanding the short crop re
ported generally in the east and the
expected heavy demand for potatoes,
no orders are at present coming to
this city from Texas points, a very un.
usual occurrence even during normal
seasons.
