to accept a position in vaudeville. :

Sugar War In Portland May Reduce
Sugar Prices Once More.
Hogs tqok an advance of five cents
in Portland yesterday, following the
decline of the day before, and it is be
lieved that the last quotation will not
stand long for the see-saw has started.
Local dealers anticipate that the
change in Portland is only for a day

The sugar war in Portland threat-1
ens to lower surar prices even more
than the fall yesterday and it would
not be surprising to get lower quota

cial) By reason of the resignation of
Dean Hendrlck,. the task of complet
ing the Greater Whitman Endowment
fund has fallen upon President Pen
rose, and he is now actively engaged
in carrying out that work. It is cer
tain that the city of Walla Walla and
vicinity will, as before, take a pro
found Interest in this and bear a con
siderable part of the burden of sup
porting the work. A committee, com
posed of the most prominent men of
the city, has been appointed by Mr.
Kiellough, president of the Commer
cial club. Thre Is every reason to
expect hearty support from some of
the large farmers of Walla walla
county who have not yet contributed.
