J ham Astralias) "Vare Straw"
The east ia after Pacific northwest
wheat, says a Portland paper yester
day. During the past f?w day 50 car
loads have been sold for that destina
tion by local parties.
The wheat was of the bluestem va
riety and Is a favorite with miller
everywhere. Nowhere, not even In lu
home in Australia, where it is called
"purple straw," does it attain sock
perfection as In some portions of Oregon-
For some time Minneapolis millers,
who operate on the greatest scale In
the world, have been trying, to pur
chase wheat from this sectios. Owing
to the short crop of the better quality
at home, they tave been forced to look
elsewhere for supplies and the bine
stem . of . the Pacific , northwest fill
their needs In this respect.
Up to this time the bids of the east
ern millers have been from 2 to 3 cts.
a bushel below the prices askwd on
the Pacific coast; therefore, no busi
ness resulted until the last 24 hours.
It Is stated that samples of north
west blufistem have recently reached
the east and the quality was so much
better than expected taftt deals were
closed at once for 50 carloads. In or
der to study the situation better sev
eral of the eastern mills have dis
patched representatives to Ore?cvn and
additional purchases may b expected.

ed at S4 cents a bushel for track de
