(Special) The funeral services of Thomas Roup were held. today at the First M. E. church, same being conducted by Rev. J. W. Miller. In honor of the deceas ed all business was suspended here. The 'remains were buried in ths Prairl Croek cemetery near Joseph. Mr. Roup was born May 3rd, 1828, in Livingston county, New York, where he received his education and grew to manhood's estate. He remain ed at home until he was 24 years of age, when bis adventurous spirit led spent 15 years at farming. After this time ho wen toMontana and located tt the mouth ot Bear Gukh, on th Mullen road, where he kept a hotel i for some time, after which he return- to Missouri and tilted the land for several years. In 1874 he turned we3 ward and located in Wallowa county, Oregon, on the place that he owned at the time of his death. Thfl marriage of Mr. iRoup and Miss Nancv Henry occurred in 1852. He Is survived by his wife and three chil dren: Loretta, wife of H. S. Hunt, in this county, E. T. Roup and W. J Roup both of this county. Mr. Roup' was very active In the defense of the settlers durlne the Indian wars of 1878, and has ever taken a commend able Interest in the affairs of the coun tv. During his stay in Montana he. was Justice of the peace, and in 1878 was appointed by tne coun justice of the neace for Wallowa county.
