of h.alth, Prof. J. F. Morel, of the
department of animal husbandry at
the Oregon agricultural college, has
been named as state veterinarian to
succised Dr. W. H. Lytle of this city.

The announcement of the appoint
ment of Morel to be state veterinarian
Was made at Salem Saturday and thi

sition draws a salary of $2000 per an

In the past Dr. Lytle has been serv
ing n naie veiuinaiian as well as
sheep Inspector. However, he has
been drawing his salary as sheep in
spector and not as veterinarian. Con-
seQuently th. change si 111 leaves him
yittf a salaried position.,. .It appears
though, that the sheep, commission
Is virtually without funds - After the
veto of the live stock sanitary bill by
Governor West the commission was
l:ft with but $1500 upon which to op
erate for a period of two years. It
Is understood that this Bum has been
virtually expended and what the board
will do fop the future remains In
doubt.
According to Dr. Lytle. who is now
In the city, he will contlnua to serve
as stta. sheep Inspector and will con
tinue his headquarters In Pendleton.
Whether or not any change is content,
plated by the board of sheep commis
sioners he does not know. As now
arranged the sh?ep bard will not
meet until January.
