Pleasing a large audience in every
respect and generally conceded to be
the best stock company seen in La
Grande In many a day, the Courteney
Morgan troupe last night opened a
week's engagement at the Steward.
"A Women of Mystery"' was the vehi
cle In which the star and her assist
ants made their debut to the La
Grandetheatre goers and they all did
it well. The Steward was well crowd
ed with an appreciative audience.
Gowns Especially Fine.
The striking feature of the company
Js the line of elegant gowns worn by
the women, and the excellent scenery.
There is nothing cheap or gaudy about
the concern and it Is believied a big
run of houses will greet their appear

SEATTLE LIKES SnOW.
"Flower of the Ranch" Well Taken at
. , Seattle by Thpsfc Goers.
What th Seattle Times of Monday,
Sept. 4th, says of Joseph E. Howard's
tuneful musical comedy, "The Flower
of the Ranch ' This will be good
nws to local theatre goers for this Is
the opening attraction at Steward's
opera house, Tuesday, October 3rd.
Jess Harr is eoni'dian In "The Flow
er of the dSaiich.'V .
Nobody from Starland." . ,
While the scenic dre'sslng of the Se
attle's attraction Is not calculated to
caus; Imevta sjun around In circles
and rave about it, this fnembera of.,thj
chorus are, for when it comes to pul
chritudinous presence, high grade en
semble work In chorus and graceful
dancing, they will measure up to many
a musical comedy company that has
passed through here and demanded
several times as much money for the
privilege of listening to them warbl
and watching them cavort. Another
pleasing feature to observe Is that the
male members of the cast and a cho
rus man is generally the- ultimate em
bodiment of general cussedness of ap
pearances are cleancut chaps with
voices that blend! effectively in har
mony. "The Flower of the Ranch'
though featureing Mable de Norden
dorf to a certain extent as prima don
no, is not a production in which solo
ists loom big; in fact. It's the chorus
work that gets across.
If you knew of the real value of
Chamberlain's Liniment for lame back
soreness of the muscles, sprains am
rheumatic pains, you would never
wish to be without It. For sale by
all dealers, i sod
tlrely from it and s veral of its situ
ations, which now depend on melody,
built up a bit, it would be able to
stand the gaff of criticism.
Curiously enough, "The Flower of
the Ranch" books, lyrics and muBic
is by Joseph E. Howard. This makes
two musical c omeilies with music fur
nished by Howard, playing the que:n
city this week, for ttw prolific com
