Wood of Michigan, and Mr. and Mrs. Allan Ellsworth of Portland, all of whom are guests of Mr. and Mrs. George S. Birnie and Mrs. H. R. MacDonald. Mrs. J. A. Kussell gave a coaching party to the. Th day was quietly spent but most keenly enjoyed, In this, one of nature's fav orite resting places, , Mrs. Stevens, true to reputation, spread a most om ple and delectable repast before her euests. The party consisted of Mr. "and Mrs. Stevens, General and Mrs. Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Birnie, Mr. and Mrs. Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Ellsworth, Mrs. H. R. MacDonald, Read Ells worth and Joyce Ellsworth. . . . Mr. and Mrs. Birnie have given their guests the pleasure of a number of horseback rides to places of note In the vicinity of La Grande, particu larly the ride Including the Glass Hill view point, which affords a won derful panorama of a wonderful val- : ley. , ' -' '. :- ,i : An interesting evening of music at the Rlrnle home wag another feature of the week. Mrs. J. A. Russell gaVe an. informal "At Home" .on ' Wednesday for the double purpose of giving her friends an opportunity of renewligvacquain-' tance with Mrs.- Fred F. Wood, nee Lou Ellsworth,' and of meeting Mrs. Allan Ellsworth, of Portland. Mrs. Russell's charming home .was throng ed during the afternoon. Mrs. Jean MacDonald-Birnle presided daintily at the ounch table. . '. A ' pleasan qulndecennial function was "pulled off" last Tuesday even ing, when Mr. and Mrs. Horace G. Vinacke celebrated the fifteenth anni versary of connubial bliss. There were gathered at the first landing of :he flying machine a much smaller but quieter lot of folks than assem bled on" the-day of that exciting aero plane failure; these later folks vwere quite welcome. ' , ; Wednesday evening of , this week Miss Lena Jones and Miss' Irene Mur phy w9re hostesses to a very delight ful little theatre party, after which the guests were served to a dainty two-course luncheon at the home of Miss Jones. " At the home of Grandma Glass a birthday party was held on August 26, the event beln in honor of the 70th birthday. All of her' children wens present, and other guests. Including Chas. F. Glass, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Bartmesa, Mr. and Mrs Andrew Sund man, Mr and Mrs. W. W. Glass, Mrs. I Minnie Glass and her mother Mrs. J. M, Hagey. In addition there are nine grandchildren and two graucl chiidren of Mrs. Glass, who reside in Portland and Seattle. Grandma Glass was one of the first to come to the Grande Ronde valley, by ox team, landing in this city, or what was then a hamlet, In 1860. , Mrs". Frank Bay and Mrs. Nate Zwelfol were hostesses Thursday af ternoon to the 'Newly-Wed' sewing club. The club has again taken up Its semi-monthly meetings for the coming year, after a vacation during the hot summer months.- Mrs. Hugh Shelley, of Portland, was the guest of honor. Those present were, Mes dames Shelley, Ben Noyes, Chas. Mur chison, Chas. Bull, J. Y. Walnum, J3ss Paul, A. W. Nelson and Nate Zweifel.
