Rattler In Pndleton.

Reminding one of frontier days in
Pendleton, a huge rattlesnake made
its appearance within the city limits
this morning. The snake is ' dead,
plucklly killed by Mrs. Elmer Turner,
who discovered It In the front yard of
her home In Byerg grove.
The repf tie made its apeparance ear
ly today. Mrs. Turner was attracted
to. the scene by the barking of a dog
which was about to attack the snake.
The latter was colled to strike,
Picking up a huge stone, Mrs. Turn
er hurled It at the snake. Those hav
ing comments to make on the .marks
manship of the "weaker sex" should
reserve them for future dates for Mrs,
Turner hit Mr. Rattler the Jlrsi wal
lop. He died.
The snake, after rattles had been
, removed, measured 39 1-4 inches In
length. In lis largest part it measured
five inches In diameter. It had five
rattles and a button.'
