Mexican Railways Face Strike.
El Paso, Texas. August 4. Though
nothing has developed to verify the
report that a general strike would be
declared tomorrow on the National
Railways of Mexico system, it is the
general belief among those acquaint
ed with he situation that the threat
ened Btrlke is certain to matreiallze at
an early date. The dissatisfaction of
the employes, particularly the firemen
and brakemen, has been on the In
crease for some time. While wages
and hours of labor figure in the con
troversy to some extent, the real
cause of the trouble, is found in the
complaint of the Mexicans that , the
better positions, such as those of con
ductors and engineers, ore held by
Americans and that tha latter are paid
higher wages than are the naives.
