Liveryman. Gassett Is right on the
spot again, doing business In the sta
bles at the rear of the Pratt ware
house. This arrangement is but tem
porary, as Mr. Gassett has not yet de
cided as Mr. Gassett has not yet de
cided whether he will rebuild or not.
Contractors are this week figuring
with Mr. Gassett on the erection of a
stone building on the site of the ona

The leading feature of the new
plan is the establishment of there
main devlslons. These are the east
ern division, with headquarters at
Governor's Island, the central division,
with headquarters at Chicago, and the
western division, with headquarters at
San Francisco. At these places the
principal work Is to be concentrated.
The divisional officers will give atten
tion to the purely, military business,
leaving the department commanders
to deal with administrative detail. The
object is to develop officers capable cf
handling great army units.
The army headquarters at Denver is
the only one abollBhed'under the new
order. Considerable changes, however,
are made In the boundaries of the
other departments. The department
of the east is extended to take In Ohio
and, Kentucky, which hitherto .have
formed part of the department of the
lakes. Louisiana Is transferred from
the department of the Gulf to the de
partment of Texas. North and South
Dakota, formerly Included In the de
partments of Dakota and Missouri, are
feature of the week. Of an education
al nature will be the great outdoor
pageants and parades symbollzjng the
history of the northwest, beginning
with the discovery of the upper Mis
sissippi, the Indian warfare that fol
lowed with its settlement, the events
of early statehood, the sending of the
first troops to the front In the civil
war, the coming of the railroads, the
development, of : commerce, the har
vesting of the crops and the remark
able era of general prosperity.
The decorative features are especial
ly attractive and elaborate, street af
ter street in the down town section
being literally a sea of flags and bunt
ing and at nlght-ablaze with hundreds
of thousand of multi-colored lights.
