picnic Monday, which was attended by
about 40,, who indulged In the usual
picnic sports. .
Sunday afternon Mrs. Harford pre
pared the way for a ' permanent or
ganization of the'L. T. 1. teaching
mottoes, songs and salu ) b, which the
lusty' voice 8 on Monday.
The five cent lunches brought by the
children proved ample for hungry
folks and also to be a very satisfac
tory ;thod of managing a picnic
dinner. The girls would doubtless say
that not the least of the fun was "play
ing school'' and the Impromptu "ex
hibition" in which the ladles present
assisted by old time songs and recitations.-

' Of course the crowning event of the
institute was the address on "Chrls
tion Citizenship" by Mrs. Harford on
Sunday evening, at the union meet
ing. Mrs Laura Boyd, county presi
dent, hopes to have one of these In
stitutes In each town in the county
in the summer and early fall.

Is hereby given that in pursuance of a
resolution adopted by the common
council of the city of La Grande, Ore
gon, on the 9th day of February, 1910,
creating Improvement district No. 16
and designating Sixth street as such
district, and In pursuance of a resolu
tion adopted by said common council
on the 24th day of May, 1911, where
by said council determined and de
clared its intention to Improve all that
portion of Sixth street. In said im
provement district as hereinafter de
scribed, by laying thereon macadam
pavement, cement curb and walk, the
council will, ten days after the ser
vice of this notice upon the owners
of the property affected and benefitted
by. such improvement, order that sa
above described improvement be
made; that the boundaries of said dis
trict to be so Improved are as follows:
