No Referendum Attachment and Work

With the expiration Saturday of
the time for filing referendum peti
tions and no such petition- having
been filed to hold up the additional
appropriation for the Eastern Oregon
branch hospital the state board is now
free to proceed with the establishment
of the institution adjacent to this city.
That the plans for the buildings ars
almost completed and that work will
be undertaken soon is stated by Gov
ernor Oswald West. For many weeks
past State Architect Knighton ha3
been at work upon the plans for the
buildings and It is expectedNhe will
have them completed by June 1, Bids
for the construction of the buildings
will then be asked for and the con
tracts let.
According to Governor West the
board will .first build the main ad
ministration building and a. wing on
either side, the other wings propos
ed being added later on as needed.
The heating plant and laundry build
ings will also bebuilt at once. Tha
state has already made arrangements
with the O.-W. R. & N. company for
the construction of a spur through
the rear of the branch asylum grounds
so as to permit of the unloading of
fuel and supplies right at the institu
tion. :
"In constructing the branch asylum
hospital buildings," says Governor
West, "we are going to act carefully
and with a view to the future as well
as to the present needs of the insti
tution. We will erect the very best
buildings possible with the money
appropriated and we will try to ar
range for a model institution in every
regard." f

INITIATION AT HOPE CHAPTER TO
BE BIG EVENT.

What will likely be the last oppor
tunity to ste Hope chapter floral drill
team put on the splendid drill which
it is anticipated will prove something
of a revelation to the Portland grand
lodge in June, will be accorded mem
bers of Hope chapter and the visiting
members of the order of Easter Star,
next' Wednesday evening The lodge
will lnitiat a class on that evening,
and following it comes the f ntlre. drill
which is to be put on In Portland. As
a climax to it all will be a banquet
served by two social sections of the
lodge.
"Evfry member should be present
and the drill team will duplicate Its
proposed drill in Portland, on that
evening," said Grand Worthy Matron
Carrie Hunter this morning, 'The
team has certainly perfected itself and
there will be an opportunity present
ex! for those who cannot go to Port
land, to see this team work as it will
in Portland."
